We recently had the privilege of starting our wedding photography season with Mystic and Andrew’s elopement in Acadia National Park, a two-day celebration that included their immediate families. Mystic and Andrew chose Bar Harbor not just for its natural beauty, but because visiting national parks is something they love doing together. Maine felt like the perfect place to say their vows and start this new chapter.
As wedding photographers, a big part of our job is to help our couples plan their day. For elopement couples, this is particularly important. In the months leading up to their elopement, we helped Mystic and Andrew think about where and how they might like to get married. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t quite want to cooperate with the original plan, so we worked closely with Mystic and Andrew in the days leading up to the wedding to identify an alternative location that would allow them to still get married outdoors in the Park despite the rain.
This led us to one of Acadia’s historic Carriage Road bridges at Eagle Lake. Its large stone structure kept everyone dry while retaining the look and feel of being outside. Andrew’s grandfather officiated a touching ceremony, which included a ring blessing. Everyone in attendance provided words of congratulations and encouragement, as they passed the rings around. Mystic and Andrew were full of laughter and smiles, and their ceremony was such a nice, intimate moment. We were happy to be a part of it. Afterward, the rain eased, allowing us to take pictures on the path and rocks around the lake.
The next evening, we met back up with Mystic and Andrew to visit the locations that had originally been planned. We started with pictures near the Jesup Path and Wild Gardens of Acadia before moving to the cliffs along the Ocean Path. As the sun began to set, sending all sorts of beautiful colors throughout the sky, we ended the session at Otter Point with a full moon in the distance.
All throughout, Mystic and Andrew were a joy to photograph. They didn’t let the rainy weather keep them from realizing their dream of getting married in Acadia, and their perseverance resulted in some beautiful pictures. We had a lot of fun working with this wonderful couple, and we wish them much happiness in the future.
