Michaela and Sailo’s Maine Wedding at the Bar Harbor Regency

Sailo grew up in Sri Lanka and moved to the United States when he was 15 years old. If you were to ask him, he’d tell you he moved to America so he could meet Michaela and fall in love. How sweet! Who wouldn’t want someone to move halfway around the world just to fall in love with them?

These two met when they were teenagers, and they started dating just before Michaela went off to college. A couple years ago, they took a vacation together to Old Orchard Beach. As Michaela tells it, it was a beautiful summer’s day in July. Sailo had gone for a walk on the beach, and, after a time, he called for Michaela to join him. There on the beach, Sailo dropped to one knee and proposed. In Michaela’s words, “It was the sweetest moment and the perfect proposal.”

Maine, therefore, has a special place in both their hearts, which is part of the reason why they chose the Stone House at the Bar Harbor Regency for their wedding. The Stone House is a beautiful stone building fashioned in the same Tudor style as the gate lodges of Acadia National Park. It sits right on the water overlooking Bar Island and Frenchman’s Bay, and it’s the perfect spot for a coastal wedding.

August is perhaps the best time to be in Maine, late August in particular, and Michaela and Sailo were blessed with gorgeous weather – plenty of sun, but not too hot. They said their vows in front of family and friends who had traveled from all across the world to share in that moment with them. It was such a sweet, powerful moment filled with much laughter, and there were more than a few tears of joy.

After the ceremony, everyone moved into the Stone House for food and merriment. This group really loved to dance, and we photographed some of the best dance moves we’d seen all season. Sailo, in particular, left it all on the dance floor – the true sign of an ecstatic groom. Michaela, of course, was no slouch, and she gave Sailo a run for his money.
