Melanie and Jeff’s Maine Wedding at Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake

Last October, Melanie and Jeff were married at the beautiful Migis Lodge on Sebago Lake. Matt and I had a great time photographing this cute couple’s engagement session at Fort Williams a few months earlier, and so we couldn’t wait to photograph their wedding!

Migis Lodge is a 125 acre resort featuring 35 cottages nestled along the Sebago Lake shoreline. It’s the perfect spot for a slightly rustic, getaway vacation, or – in this case – a wedding! Many of Melanie and Jeff’s relatives stayed right there at the resort, meaning they were able to enjoy the lawn games and kayaking, or they could just plain relax.

When Matt and I arrived, Melanie and her ladies were having their hair and makeup done. Everyone was so excited! Matt ventured off to photograph the guys, and I stayed behind to photograph Melanie getting ready. Melanie’s mother and bridesmaids couldn’t stop smiling and laughing as they helped her into her dress. It was so sweet!

Soon it was time for the first look, which is always one of my favorite things to photograph. Melanie slowly walked up behind Jeff, who was looking out toward the lake. She placed her hands over his eyes, and he quickly turned around. The two of them were so happy to see each other! From there, we photographed a few formals further down the dock.

The weather up until this point had been rather pleasant, especially for October. But the forecast was on everyone’s mind. It was supposed to start raining right around ceremony time. We could all see the storm clouds gathering on the far edge of the lake, so Melanie and Jeff decided to push the ceremony forward by about 20 minutes. Jeff and his groomsmen went around to all of the cabins and gathered the guests. I suppose that’s an added convenience of having everyone stay at one resort!

Before long, Melanie and Jeff were standing in front of their loved ones, ready to recite their vows. It seemed as though they might escape the rain. But the storm clouds drew nearer and nearer, and the sky opened up partway through the ceremony. Everyone got quite wet! Nonetheless, Melanie and Jeff finished their vows, exchanged rings, and emerged from the rain as newlyweds!

Fortunately, the rain didn’t last long. Melanie and Jeff were able to enjoy a nice sunset cruise around the lake before heading off to their reception. After a wonderful dinner, toasts, and cake cutting, it was time to open up the dance floor. And boy could this group dance! The dance floor was full, and everyone had a great time!

Matt and I really enjoyed working with Melanie and Jeff, and we wish them nothing but the best. Below are some of my favorite photographs from throughout their wedding. Enjoy!
