Katie and Max’s Bar Harbor Wedding at Sweet Pea’s Farm Kitchen

It’s not every day that you’re able to get married in the same place you got engaged, but that’s exactly what Katie and Max did. Max’s parents have a lovely home in Lamoine, Maine, which faces the Mount Desert Narrows and has a large tract of oceanfront beach. Last year, Max invited Katie and her family to visit Maine under the guise that Max’s family was going to host a 30th birthday party for Max. As it turns out, however, Max was actually planning a secret (to Katie at least) engagement party for their two families. Katie was standing on the beach completely unawares with her brother and Max’s sister when Max came around the corner and proposed. In Katie’s words, it was an absolutely beautiful and perfect moment. They then spent the evening celebrating with family and friends, enjoying the great company and amazing views.

Given all this, it’s not surprising that Katie and Max decided to host everyone again a year later and get married overlooking the spot where Max proposed. This time, their next door neighbor graciously invited them to host the ceremony in her backyard (which is larger and has clearer views of the mountains). It was there that Katie and Max said their I-do’s surrounded by their friends and extended families. It was a wonderful moment and a beautiful bookend to the year prior.

After the ceremony, everyone traveled a short distance to Sweet Pea’s Cafe in Bar Harbor, which is part of a working farm on the same property. It is the perfect spot for an event on Mount Desert Island. The décor is upscale rustic and the food is fantastic, incorporating local ingredients from fishermen and other farms whenever possible. Katie, Max, and their guests enjoyed a broad assortment of hors d’oeuvres on the upper outdoor patio before eventually making their way down to the tent for dinner. The evening was filled with toasts, lawn games, and good company, and everyone had a great time.
