Kathryn and Sam’s Wedding at the Ocean Gateway in Portland, Maine

We’re so happy for Kathryn and Sam! They were married on a gorgeous summer’s afternoon at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Portland, Maine followed by a reception at the Ocean Gateway. Kathryn and Sam live in Portland, and the city holds a lot of meaning for them. It was an easy decision therefore to get married in the city they love.

Both Kathryn and Sam started their day by getting ready at the AC Hotel Portland. Kathryn and all of her special ladies got pampered and made up by Radiant Bridal Artistry, while Sam and the guys put on ties, jackets, and boutonnieres in another room. Soon, it was time for the first look, which took place on the green near Ocean Gatway Pier. It’s always so fun to photograph first looks, because it’s such a joyous moment. Kathryn and Sam were no different, and they were full of laughter and a few small tears as they embraced for the first time on their wedding day. They shared private vows with the Gateway in the distance, and then we all took a brief trip to the nearby Eastern Promenade for pictures, followed by family photos back at the Gateway.

From there, everyone packed into trolleys and made the short ride over to the church. Despite all the years we’ve been photographing weddings, this was our first time photographing a Greek Orthodox ceremony. It was a lovely service with so many intricacies, and Father Constantine Sarantidis was warm and sincere. Kathryn’s brother and sister-in-law helped with the formalities, and, before long, Kathryn and Sam sealed the deal with a kiss – exiting the church to much applause.

After the ceremony, it was time for cocktails, dinner, and dancing at the Ocean Gateway. The Gateway is a great event space for larger wedding receptions on the Portland waterfront. With its tall windows, the Gateway has spectacular views of Portland Harbor. Kahootz Entertainment put on one of the best perfromances we’ve seen recently at a wedding, and Kathryn and Sam and all of their guests had a faulous time dancing the night away.
