Joanna and Sanchu’s Maine Wedding at St. Ann’s Church in Kennebunkport

This past August, Matt and I had the privilege of photographing Joanna and Sanchu’s wedding at St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Kennebunkport, Maine. St. Ann’s sits overlooking the ocean and is known for its beautiful stone construction. Those very stones came from the church’s grounds back when the church was built in the late 1800’s. The builders quarried the sea-washed stones over the course of a full winter, and the church itself took five years to build. Therefore, not only is St. Ann’s a beautiful place to get married, its also a good metaphor for marriage: building a relationship takes time and hard work, but if that relationship resides on a solid foundation, then it will withstand the test of time.

Perhaps Joanna and Sanchu had this thought as they stood within the church’s stout walls and said their vows to one another. Or, maybe they were simply busy focusing on each other at that exact moment! Regardless, they both looked so happy to be getting married, and they couldn’t stop smiling all throughout the service. They had invited their families to be with them that day, and so everyone was clustered up near the front pews. Matt and I felt so honored to be a part of such a special, private moment.

After the ceremony, we had time for a few quick formal pictures. Soon, however, it was time to go down the road to the Ocean Restaurant at the Cape Arundel Inn. There, Joanna, Sanchu, and their families enjoyed a delicious meal. Ocean is the same restaurant where Sanchu proposed to Joanna. And so, even though the restaurant doesn’t typically specialize in weddings, they made an exception for the happy couple and their guests.

Before it got dark, Matt and I were sure to take the newlyweds outside for a few more pictures. They light was perfect, and Joanna and Sanchu were so cute together, as they had their pictures taken on the cliffs.

Matt and I really enjoyed our time with Joanna and Sanchu, and we wish them much happiness now and in the future. Below are some of my favorite pictures from throughout their wedding. Enjoy!
