Christina and Aaron’s Maine Wedding at the Westin Portland Harborview

Say hello to Christina and Aaron! This past October, they were married during a lovely ceremony at the Westin Portland Harborview in Portland, Maine. Their wedding capped off three wonderful years together, during which they traveled the country (visting New York City, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Seattle, Lake Tahoe, and Nashville to name a few), snuggled up for countless movie nights, made it out alive from various escape rooms, and played lots and lots of fantasy football.

Speaking of football, Christina and Aaron are huge sports fans. Aaron works as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Bates College, and Christina grew up in a sports household (her father, Gus, won multiple state championships as a high school football coach). Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Aaron proposed to Christina in the end zone at Lambeau Field.

Not only is Lambeau Field one of the most iconic locations in American sports, but Christina is a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, and the first time Aaron told Christina he loved her was during a Packers game. So, what better place to propose? Aaron planned the perfect proposal weekend with a tour of Lambeau Field, a trip to the Packers Hall of Fame, and sideline passes for the game. He topped it all off with his grandmother’s engagement ring from 1936, which fit Christina perfectly (and, incidentally, was from a year the Packers won the NFL championship under Curly Lambeau). That weekend, Christina and Aaron became engaged, and the Packers beat the Buffalo Bills 22 to 0. It was a good weekend.

Christina and Aaron chose to get married in Portland, because they love the city. While Aaron moved to Maine just four years ago, Christina grew up in the state and has lots of family and friends here. They knew October could be cold, but they also wanted to capture some of the pretty fall colors on their big day. So, they struck a nice balance by choosing to have their ceremony and reception inside at the Westin and their formal pictures outside at Deering Oaks Park, a 55-acre park in the heart of Portland.

Christina is an English teacher, and she’s an avid reader. Naturally, she wanted to bring some literary elements into her wedding. We loved the way she decked out the reception hall with books, library cards, and literary quotes. Each guest had their own library card as a place setting, and each library card had a quotation. It all took so much time and care, which was perhaps our biggest takeaway from Christina and Aaron’s wedding. They both care deeply for one another, and they were so happy to be getting married. One couldn’t help but smile all throughout the day, watching Christina and Aaron. Their day was full of laughter and tears, quiet moments and big moments. It was a privilege to photograph it all.
