A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of photographing Bethany and Mike’s wedding at the York Harbor Reading Room. Bethany grew up visiting York, and the town, with its quaint shops and numerous sandy beaches, is very important to her. She and Mike have been together for more than nine years, and over that time the town has become a special place that they share together. It was only natural, therefore, that they chose to get married in this quintessential Maine town.
Mike proposed to Bethany during a Paris trip in 2023. He had planned to propose a day later at the Eiffel Tower, but he instead decided to pop the question during a visit to Mont Saint Michel. Bethany of course said yes, which made their trip all the more joyous and exciting.
All of Bethany and Mike’s joy and excitement wasn’t quite enough to keep the rain clouds away on their wedding day. The same storm pattern that resulted in more than three months of rainy Saturdays showed up just in time for what would have been an outdoor ceremony. Fortunately, Bethany and Mike had prepared for the worst by booking a lovely venue with an indoor option, and they said their “I-do’s” in the Reading Room’s ballroom. Although it might not have been the scenery they had hoped for, the warmth and love surrounding them in the space was palpable, and the ceremony itself, which was officiated by a close friend, was very sweet and full of love.
Eventually, the rain clouds gave way to clearing skies, and we were able to take Bethany and Mike around York for a series of portraits at Nubble Light House and York Harbor Beach. They were so cute together, and you could tell they just enjoy being around each other. Every time Mike would make a joke or comment, Bethany would light up with the biggest smile on her face. It was so sweet!
The rest of the day was filled with dancing, food, and lots of good company. Bethany’s mother really went all out in the days leading up to the wedding, creating the most amazing tea party themed reception space we’ve seen. Everywhere you looked, there were floral arrangements, vintage teacups, and other details that really brought the York Harbor Reading Room to life.
We had a great time photographing all of the festivities, and we’re so glad Bethany and Mike chose us to be a part of their wedding. We wish them (and their two cats, Gus and Meeko) much happiness now and in the future. Below are some of our favorite pictures from throughout their special day. Take a look!
