Maggie and Michael met in 2018 through mutual friends during a trip to New York City. Maggie, who admits she doesn’t travel light, had several bags and a pillow. When it started raining on their walk to their accommodation, Michael kindly tucked her pillow under his jacket to keep it dry. Over the weekend, they grew closer, sitting next to each other at restaurants and bars and even traveling across Brooklyn to meet Maggie’ cousin. Before leaving New York City, Michael asked Maggie out on a date. They went out on their first date about a week later, and they’ve been together ever since!
Michael wanted to make his proposal to Maggie meaningful, so he planned a scavenger hunt around Cambridge, Massachusetts. He teamed up with Maggie’s friends, Cori and Katie, to organize a fake birthday party at a wine bar, ensuring Maggie would be dressed for the occasion. Michael spent weeks planning the hunt, with friends stationed at each stop to hand out clues. The route took Maggie to significant locations, including their first apartment, the soccer field where they play, and their first date spot, Felipes. The hunt ended at the boathouse where Michael used to row, and he was waiting for her under the cherry blossom trees along the riverbank.
For their engagement session, we looked for a location midway between them in Massachusetts and us in central Maine. We all agreed on the Wells Reserve at Laudholm in Wells, Maine a stunning property with seven miles of trails through diverse landscapes. Though we’d heard of it before, we were excited to visit for the first time with Maggie and Michael.
The day of their engagement session was perfect. From the moment we started photographing, Maggie and Michael were a joy to work with. They laughed, smiled, and cuddled, clearly enjoying each other’s company. We spent the afternoon chatting about their wedding plans while exploring the area. We arrived at Laudholm Beach just as the sun began to set, finishing their engagement portraits as the sun dipped below the water. It was the perfect way to end the day.
We had a fantastic time with Maggie and Michael and are looking forward to their wedding in September at the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, Massachusetts. Below are some of our favorite photos from their engagement session at Wells Reserve at Laudholm in Wells, Maine.
