We photograph families throughout downeast and mid-coast Maine, including Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Camden, Belfast, Castine, and other popular Maine destinations. If you live in Maine or if you’re planning to visit our lovely state, contact us to see if we travel to your area! We work with families of all ages and sizes. Because both of us photograph most family sessions together, we can easily accommodate large groups, multiple families, extended families, and pets.

Many of our clients are visiting Maine from away, and we always enjoy helping families find the perfect location for their session. Whether it’s a sandy beach, a rocky coastline, or a trail through the woods, we can help you pick a fun and memorable backdrop for your portraits. For a bit of inspiration and to see examples of past sessions, take a look through our family portrait blog or our family portrait gallery.

Each session typically lasts between 60 and 90 minutes, depending on how many people are in your group. Most sessions take place at one location, with the option to add a second location depending on your plans. We promise to take our time and never make you feel rushed, and you can expect plenty of direction and encouragement throughout your session. Whether you’re looking for a more traditional, posed portrait or something candid, like a walk along the beach, we’d love to help you capture it!

In order to book a session date and time, we require a payment equal to one half of your total session price along with a signed contract and model release. The remainder of your payment will be due on or before your session date.

After your session, it typically takes us 3-4 weeks to go through your pictures and select and edit pictures for proofing. Once ready, we’ll provide you with an online gallery from which you can select any pictures you’d like to receive as prints or digital files. After you place your gallery order, we’ll perform final edits on the pictures you selected and submit your pictures to our print vendor (if applicable) for processing. We will email digital files to you directly once they’re ready.

Your gallery will remain online for 2 weeks. If your gallery expires and you need additional time, it can be made available again. However, you may be subject to an additional fee. The reason for this is that we pay for server storage, and there are costs associated with hosting images.

If your package includes digital files, then you will receive a print release granting limited rights to print, use, or reproduce the photos for personal, non-commercial use. All copyrights, commercial printing rights, distribution rights, and other rights will be retained solely by us. We understand this can be confusing, so we’d be happy to explain in simpler language over the phone or in person.

Yes! Our online gallery makes it very easy to place an order.

We’ve tested and compared several of the nation’s top professional printing labs. The labs that we’ve chosen to work with offer only the highest quality prints. All printers are not created equal, unfortunately. It can be difficult for lower-quality printers to accurately replicate the colors you see on a computer screen. We’ve calibrated our equipment to match the labs with which we work. This means the color, exposure, and sharpness of the prints you order through us will closely match the digital pictures you see in your gallery.

You don’t all need to wear the same exact clothing, but it helps if you wear matching or complimentary colors. You should stay away from clothing with patterns, stripes, or large polka dots. You can’t go wrong with solid colors! Large patterns, while fun, can be distracting in pictures, and stripes can make you look wider than you actually are. Speaking of solid colors, try to stay away from too much white, such as all-white shirts. White reflects light, and white clothing can become blown out in pictures.

For toddlers and small children (age four and under), pants work best. Pants help to prevent skinned knees if a child falls while playing. They also don’t ride up if the child needs to be held. If you prefer that your small child wear a dress, then be sure she’s wearing some sort of leggings underneath.

Ladies, it’s always great to bring a few accessories with you. A stylish jacket or scarf, for example, can transform you from one look into another without the need for a complete wardrobe change. Also, please consider the cut of your top. It always helps if your top has a defined waist. Flowy shirts can make you look larger than you actually are. If you’d like examples of clothing ideas, just ask!

All of our sessions happen on location. If you’d like some help choosing a spot, we have a long list of awesome locations that we’re happy to recommend. For example, we photograph a lot of sessions in and around Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, which offers all sorts of great backdrops.

We do not charge a separate fee for travel. Any travel costs are included in your session or package price.

So long as you provide sufficient advance warning and you are not rescheduling due to weather (see below), then we will make every effort to accommodate your change. However, please understand that once you’ve been penciled in, that’s a designated time where we haven’t scheduled other clients. It may be difficult for us to fill that time slot with another session without sufficient notice. We therefore ask that you make every effort to stick to your original session date and time.

Rest assured, we will be in contact with you in the days leading up to your session. If the weather is expected to be bad, then we will do our best to accommodate your schedule. We also recommend scheduling a rain date when you first book your session date, just in case.
