Family Portrait Session at Ship Harbor Trail in Acadia National Park

I first met this cute family two years ago when Renee and David brought their daughter Ava to Acadia National Park for their first family trip to Maine. I had a wonderful time joining them in exploring some of their favorite Acadia locations, including Cadillac Mountain and Jordan Pond. That’s why I was excited when Renee reached out to let me know they would be visiting Maine again and wanted some updated family pictures.

Renee and her family have always been up for an adventure, so I was excited when she told me they wanted a family portrait session location that was off the beaten path. I always love visiting new spots in the Bar Harbor area! Renee also wanted to visit the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, so I focused my search around Bass Harbor. As luck would have it, I found a great option for them at Ship Harbor Trail.

Ship Harbor Trail is located near Wonderland in Southwest Harbor, right down the road from the Bass Harbor Lighthouse. The trail includes a lovely hike through the forest and ends with some amazing ocean views. The best part is that it’s not busy at all! This location offers so much in one spot that it’s definitely my new favorite portrait location on Mount Desert Island.

When the day of their session arrived it was foggy and rainy. We ended up having to reschedule because the beautiful ocean views were lost in the fog. Lucky for us the day of their rescheduled session was lovely! It was perfect summer weather with no rain in sight.

This family was just as much fun as last time. Ava kept us all laughing with her witty comments (her parents have their hands full!) and expressive face. She took a special liking to Matt that day, and when she was not having her pictures taken she was chatting with Matt, holding his hand, or giving him hugs. It was pretty cute. Even I got a hug at the end! I couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the evening. I wish them all the best and hope to see them again soon.

Below are some of my favorites from their family portrait session. Enjoy!
