Last July I had the pleasure of photographing Shana and her cute family. They came all the way from Missouri to vacation in Bar Harbor. While in the area Shana wanted to schedule a family portrait session so they could remember their time in Acadia National Park. Shana later told me that while on vacation each one of them had picked a different activity to do as a family, and she picked a portrait session!
Shana really wanted a location that looked like they were in Maine and reminded them of their trip. We decided on Sand Beach and the cliffs beyond Thunder Hole for their session. Typically Sand Beach is quite crowded during the earlier part of the day, and I would never suggest going there then. However, if you go closer to sunset most people have left, and it’s a lot easier to move around the beach. Plus the light is softer so it’s a win-win!
The day of their session arrived, and we had beautiful weather. We arrived at Sand Beach as most people were leaving, so we had free range of the beach. The R family was awesome to photograph and the kids, Alex and Natalie, loved being on the beach. I later learned that Alex had actually chosen a beach day as his family activity pick, so he was really enjoying this extra trip.
After some fun in the sand we headed to the cliffs beyond Thunder Hole to finish up their session. I love the views from these cliffs because you’re up high enough to see the rocky coastline that Acadia National Park is known for. It was a perfect location to finish up their family portrait session. I loved working with this sweet family. I hope they visit again soon!
