When the M. family reached out about a portrait session in Maine, we knew it would be meaningful. They all traveled from Virginia to honor Jane’s mom, who had recently passed. Her wish was simple: that the family come to Maine together.
Jane’s parents had lived here for a time, and the state always held a special place in her mom’s heart. She loved going for walks and spent many days at Grindstone Point in Winter Harbor. Jane remembers being there as a child, riding in her stroller while her mom took in the view. Although we’ve photographed sessions throughout Acadia National Park over the years, we had never been to Grindstone Point. We were excited to visit a new location, especially one that meant so much to their family.
Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate. Rain and fog rolled in as we arrived, and the sky stayed gray throughout the session. Still, the M. family didn’t let it affect their time together. They embraced the conditions, and it was a pleasure working with them.
In honor of Jane’s mom, everyone wore bright colors. She had loved bold, cheerful colors, and the family wanted that spirit reflected in their photos. Against the gray sky, those colors stood out in the best way.
We’re honored they trusted us to document this time together. Below are some of our favorite images from their family portrait session at Grindstone Point in Winter Harbor, Maine.
